Fudgebrownies

During the 1982 Santa Cruz Flood, these were invented to comfort our frightened and uncomfortable friends and neighbors.  They're flaky on top and fudgy on the inside.  A few years ago after Emily and her husband Robert sent some to his sister and her family, they got this thank you note:

Brownies for breakfast, brownies for lunch.
Oh how I love to sit and munch.
Brownies for snacking, and brownies for dinner
Emily's brownies are always a winner.
